WHY NUTRITION? HEALTHY LIVING

What do you believe about Hippocrates statement that your food should be your medicine?  The man had it right!  There is mounting scientific evidence that this is totally true.  “It’s only in the past 50 years that we have been “fed” the lie that all we need is some prescription and everything will be better, your nutrition can and will help you live healthily.”

We live in one of the most medically advanced countries and we are among the top in obesity and rampant disease.  Have you every wondered why that is?  There are a few physician’s that encourage patients to make healthy food choices, but only 27 percent of U.S. medical schools actually offer students the recommended 25 hours of nutritional training and that is according to a recent perspective piece in Academic Medicine.

Many chronic illnesses, such as type 2 diabetes, are preventable.   Simple lifestyle changes—such as not smoking, limiting alcohol use, being physically active and maintaining a healthy diet will reduce your chances of coronary heart disease by 82 percent.  What else do you think it will effect?

Then there is your diet.  It’s touted that we will get all of our vitamins and minerals from the 4 food groups.  Let me ask you another question, how is that possible when our soil is depleted, our air and water are polluted and organically grown vegetables are allowed a certain amount of acceptable pesticides and herbicides? Why is it that “organically” grown animals are healthier than we are?  Do you think the farmers are on to something?  Animals don’t have health insurance so they need to be fed healthier.  What they don’t get in their food they are supplemented! We need to do the same.  Herein lies the problem.  Right now we still have the right to freely purchase vitamins and supplements and make our own health choices.  What’s next?
